HEALTHY HALLOWEEN: CARAMEL APPLES

This saturday marks the beginning of 'candy season", which lasts nearly 6 months. Starting with Halloween, and going through Thanksgiving, Christmas, Valentine's, & ending with Easter, we are bombarded with candy, cookies, & sweet-tooth delights. So if your looking for healthy alternatives here is another Halloween candy option, Caramel Apples.

Your probably thinking "how can caramel apples be healthy"? It actually is. Apples are high in Fiber and Vitamin C and walnuts give you a good source of protein and healthy fats. The sugar in the caramel is not that much more than you get from eating many yogurts. So have fun with this holiday alternative!

Ingredients
:

Low sugar/ Low fat Caramels
Popsicle sticks
Apples
A bowl of crushed walnuts

Directions:
1. Boil your caramels in water. Heat until melted. If you want less sugar or fat cook it thinner.
2. Press the popsicle sticks into the stem of each apple & dip 2/3 of the way up the apple.
3. Twirl your apple out of the caramel & dip into the walnuts
4. Place on a baking sheet for a minute to cool.
5. Enjoy!
